Come to Yoga During Camp Meeting!

Posted on Wed, Jul 12, 2017

On Monday through Saturday of camp meeting from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. there will be wonderful hour of gentle "morning stretch" yoga.  This is a great time for self-centering with God to start the day, with some physical benefit too!

There also will be yoga for "arthritis and chronic pain" on Tuesday and Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and "balance and restore" yoga on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

All yoga sessions will be held in the large VBS Cottage and led by Beverly Davis-Baird, who approaches her teaching with a caring Christian perspective.   A more complete description of the classes is listed below.   Please join us.

Sunrise Yoga (Monday-Saturday 6:30-7:30AM)

Awaken slowly to the day with this quiet, meditative mat class. We begin each class resting in a restorative pose and centering ourselves into God’s presence. Then we gradually awaken our bodies with movements which incorporate the breath while fostering flexibility and a sense of well-being. This is an ideal class for students of all levels who want to begin the day in slow, deliberate and prayerful way.

*New!! Yoga for Arthritis and Chronic Pain (Tuesday & Friday 2:30-3:30PM)

More than 50 million adults over the age of 18 have doctor-diagnosed arthritis and 100+ million suffer from chronic pain. While no one therapy is right for everyone, gentle yoga, meditation and breath work can help such individuals cope with pain and discomfort. In Yoga for Arthritis and Chronic Pain, the focus is on conscious, gentle movement of the joints using the breath. Unlike most yoga classes, students do not need to get on the floor. Instead individuals are encouraged to use props such as chairs, straps and blocks to support themselves in the poses. Emphasis is on adapting movement, relaxation, and Christian-centered meditation practices for the challenges of living with pain, arthritis, and related conditions. A highly adaptive practice for individuals of all ages and abilities, but especially for those with joint pain or limited mobility.

Balance and Restore (Thursday 3:00-4:00PM)

This class is like taking a mini vacation at a spa! We start with an all-levels flow of gentle poses and progress to restorative (ie: restful) poses, ending in deep relaxation. Props such as blankets, bolsters and blocks are used for support to promote release of tension in the muscles, aiming to reduce overall stress, restore the body and promote restfulness and health. An ideal class for students of all levels, but particularly beneficial for individuals who are tight or recovering from illness or injuries. (*Please note you need to be able to transition to and from the floor.)

Stretch and Play Kids Yoga – VBS (Monday & Wednesday – TBD) Thirty minutes of music, stretching, dancing and yoga games for children ages 3-10.
